# Run a pool

The pool operator's guide to Efficient: choosing or building a pool's hooks, creating and configuring the pool, operating it and the roles that govern it.

This section is the pool operator's guide to Efficient. Anyone can create and seed an Efficient pool through the factory. The pool operator chooses the pool's hooks, limits and roles. It also chooses the token on the other side of the pool's pair, and any other tokens the pool can borrow.

[Pool operators](/use-efficient/provide-liquidity/pool-operators.md) covers what a pool operator controls. It also lists the limits the pool code or the pool's creator fixes around each setting.

* [Getting started](/run-a-pool/getting-started.md) covers what a pool operator decides and the setup for proprietary market makers. It also gives the steps to a live pool and the current limits.
* [Build a hook](/run-a-pool/build-a-hook.md) explains how to write a pool's required and optional hooks, and the checks the pool runs on each hook's answer.
* [Configure a pool](/run-a-pool/configure-a-pool.md) walks through the factory call, asset pairs, genesis modes and activation. Then it covers the risk limits, the dials and the execution buffer settings.
* [Operate a pool](/run-a-pool/operate-a-pool.md) describes the keeper's calls, the calls open to anyone and hook changes. It also covers what to monitor, the emergency calls and practice on Base.
* [Roles and governance](/run-a-pool/roles-and-governance.md) lists each role's calls and what a pause stops. It also shows the notice each change gets and how to check a factory pool's provenance.
